Marked 4 Glory is operated by me, Mark Desa. It is a resource I created to help others struggling with rare or chronic disease. If this is what you’re looking for, keep reading.
Who is Mark?
I am a martial artist and I have a rare, degenerative disease. I have been on a journey of self-discovery for since around 2014. I feel it’s time for me to share what I’ve learned since then.
I started my martial arts journey around 1991. I began training at Kai Shin Karate. I remember learning many great life lessons while I was there. After college, I ambled around – working out at several facilities. I tried some Jiu Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing and Tai Chi. Eventually, I found my way to Kombat Arts Training Academy. I fell in love with Muay Thai. I currently assist with the Muay Thai classes. And sometimes boxing. I have every intention of returning to my original dojo and pursuing my black belt (I’m currently at brown).
I’ve been weight training off and on since college. I’m no Lou Ferrigno, but I have lots of experience and generally know what I’m doing.
A few years ago, I was displaying some strange symptoms. Headaches, poor balance, slurred speech, stomach pain and depression. I had also developed two hernias. It was recommended that I get an MRI done. I was not prepared for the results.
I was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia. It is a rare, neurological disease that affects motor function, balance and coordination – walking, talking, swallowing, breathing and more! But through my struggle, I have discovered what’s really important.
A crazy dream
Marked4glory.com was created on the back of a crazy idea. I have this notion that my incurable disease (and perhaps yours too) can be cured with exercise, nutrition and a lot of faith.
My main goal for this site is to share what I’ve learned. I need to let everyone who has a rare or chronic disease know that there is hope. I will do my best to provide great content and build a community around this topic.
